Waxahachie, Texas. Marine on Saint Croix, Minnesota. Norway, Maine. Oviedo, Florida. Sierra Madre, California. Orders for wine were pouring into Hunt Country Vineyards from towns across the country to support local flood relief efforts.
Joyce Hunt remembered, “My husband Art, son Jonathan and vineyard manager Dave Mortensen spent the better part of four days as members of the Branchport-Keuka Park Fire Department pumping basements and trying to reduce other property damage. Then Jim came to us with a great idea.”
Hunt Country general manager Jim Alsina’s wife Cecilia had suggested a campaign in which the winery would donate to the Red Cross as much as they could afford for every order of a case or more of wine. A 48-hour campaign was quickly launched, pledging a contribution of $13 for every order received. The winery received over one hundred orders, many from Yates County, but more than half from outside New York State.
Last week, Art and Joyce presented a check for $1482 to Lynne Tyler, Executive Director, and Don Debolt, Chairman of the Board, of the American Red Cross in the Finger Lakes. Art reflected, “Our community really does pull together to help one another when faced with challenges. It is also amazing how many people across the country care deeply about our area. It’s humbling and very much appreciated.”
