Ice Wine Grape Harvest and Crush
November 25, 2005
Raising the bird netting to pick the grapes.
Almost finished picking for the day...
Cellarmaster Bill Whiting and Australian intern Sandra Cluning high atop the ice wine press.
Bill and Sandra load frozen Vidal Blanc grapes into the crusher and thence into the ice wine press.
Sandra applies "elbow grease" to the paddle to force the frozen berries into the crusher.
The rest of the grapes courageously await their fate.
In the wooden box is the frozen residue of the pressing, called affectionately "the brick".
